Playing Numb

June 19, 2008, Thursday

-$36 on 12,900 shares traded.

Learning is a continuous process. Perhaps, the best lesson I learned today was to stay patient.

Mark, one of my co-traders here in our trading floor, has the longest patience I’ve ever seen. He can hold a position and stay emotionless for minutes, or hours even. I know that his strategy should work well with sound technical analysis,  and I’m already quite versatile at TA. But my number one enemy now is panic. I have to control it somehow…

Sending a Thank-You Note

•June 18, 2008 • Leave a Comment

The Simple Dollar recently posted an article about writing thank-you notes. It’s simply a sign of gratitude to helpful relatives, busines contacts, friends, or new acquaintances.

When I graduated from college, I received several monetary gifts from my godparents and my aunt. I couldn’t be more happy with the thought, even if the amounts were small, so I wrote handwritten thank-you notes and handed them to my mom for her to send.

After my first job interview, I wasn’t able to write a thank-you note to the guys. But prolly when I exit from my current trading firm, I will rightfully send my gratitude to them. It’s the least I can do to show my appreciation with their patience (or perhaps, tolerance) to my daily losses in trading. Of course, once I had secured enough money, I plan to pay them back monetarily. But thinking in that way is like planning a deathbed, so I am certainly not wishing for it to happen.

13th French Film Fest: Changement d’adresse

Changement d’adresse (Change of Address, 2006) is a playful film about a rather quiet guy who has affections for her beautiful music student, and also shares his room rent with a playful girl.

Emmanuel Mouret, as writer, director and main character of the story, is clever with his lines. In fact, the audience here in Manila were amused with the double entendres, even if the lines were spoken in French. The strength of the film is in the simplicity of its delivery. Fanny Valette was astounding; she’s a striking mix of Liv Tyler and Roxanne Guinoo. She is really pretty.

All said, Changement is an engaging film -resilient in its moments of silence, and lovable in every dialogue.

My First Shutdown

June 18, 2008, Wednesday

-$50 on 8,800 shares traded.

Rules are rules. It’s just that, I don’t understand why it’s not helping me at all. Think about it: if in every single trade, I weren’t to cut my losses at -$3, the position I had would have easily rebounded to at least $2 or even $5.

Ang inaalala ko lang, iba naman kasi ang iniisip ng mga boss ko dito. Baka sabihin nila na sinasadya ko ang losses bawat trade. [I worry much about what my bosses will say; it's not that I choose to lose everytime]

It’s difficult, you know. I’m thinking about giving it a mandatory rest, “it” being the trader career itself. I’m way overstressed with my current string of losses. My heart needs a little more lovin’ than this.

Toying With My Emotions

June 17, 2008, Tuesday

-$40 on 14,200 shares traded.

It’s quite difficult to put everything into words. I want my way out of here. No, seriously.
Every trade is like gambling, as many would put it. No matter how you calculate your risks, it’s still a 50-50 win-loss chance.

Here’s What Anger Looks Like

June 16, 2008, Monday

1:00pm. $6 on 9,800 shares traded. I ha*e you Lucas, whoever you are. I could have made $26 if you did not cut my position too early! you are such a bi*ch…

Oh well, I’ll get by, but not now. My face is still red with anger.

3:00pm. -$20 on 14,400 shares traded. I stopped trading earlier than the closing bell, because I know that trading with a heavy heart will not do me good.

Mid-Month Review: June 2008

June wasn’t a good time either. I had a losing streak on the first week, but had alternating win-loss days on the second week.

This week, I started out with a negative, so I’m not sure where this leads me. A change in career, maybe. But that is too early to tell, and besides, trading isn’t learned overnight. But two months may be a learning curve too long, eh?

Monthly Review: May 2008

May 2008 was my trial-and-error month. You can say that I was terrible.

My monthly loss is tagged at around -$200. I had a series of red days, partly because I didn’t know how to do it, and partly because I am inefficient with controlling my emotions.

June 13, 2008, Friday

-$40 on 18,200 shares traded. AT&T can be quite silent in some days, such as today. Well, I had a good rally in the doldrum session. From -$29, I got back to +$2, only to lose more and end up at -$40 at day’s end. Oh, well. Every one in the office also got unlucky, so it was a bad day overall.

Looking forward to a much favorable weekend…
